This place was on the list for lunch with some co-workers and boy, did it not disappoint. I am from the midwest where Asian food isn't too present, so I didn't really know what to expect and was so glad I was with people who knew what to order. We ordered several different options and shared them family style. Pork Sheng Jian Bao Green onion pancake Stir fried string beans La Zi chicken Dan Dan noodles Scallion oil noodles Mapo tofu Shrimp dumplings Everything was so incredibly delicious! The service was great, the restaurant was quaint and cozy, and the food was unmatched! Make sure to order the butterfly lychee drink. Not only was it gorgeous, but beyond tasty. I wished I would have grabbed one to go!
Need a lunch spot? Go to this delicious place. Dim sum hot spot: you order from the menu instead of seeing food carts push by your tables. Pork dumplings were hot, perfect soup broth inside and crispy at the bottom. One of the better dumplings I've had. Crispy tofu with spicy sauce - I didn't care for the spicy sauce because it had an odd tang or pickled taste. I would skip it. Chili oil wontons - it was good and tasty. Not spicy. Shrimp paste on Chinese doughnut - my favorite dish. The doughnut was crunchy and not too oily. The shrimp paste was flavorful and a great combo with the doughnut. I think they could cook the top of the shrimp paste a little longer so it has a bit of brown to the top. One of the cleanest dim sum Chinese restaurants as well. Service - fast, efficient, and very friendly Highly recommend to try this spot!
Highly recommend this spot for dumplings. Had a local recommend it to me and so glad I listened. All the dumplings we ordered were great. The pork bun and soup dumplings stood out the most. I also had a Thai tea which was wonderful. The service was great and food came out very quickly.
Came here for lunch while visiting SF for a work conference. Had no idea what to expect and did no research on the menu ahead of time, but was extremely delighted by our experience. We split a bunch of things family style, and I will list them out in order of my favorites. Our server was attentive, and our food came out quickly and piping hot. Pork Sheng Jian Bao - my first time having pan fried soup dumplings and I'm in love! Green onion pancake - always a winner Stir fried string beans - so flavorful! La Zi chicken - i love that Szechuan peppers tingle!! Dan Dan noodles - always a winner Scallion oil noodles - delish Mapo tofu - I've never seen it done with a block of fried tofu instead of the silken tofu but it was still delicious! Shrimp dumplings - not my thing but others loved them. Great amount of food for the price.
This place is decent. I didn't have high expectations when I picked this place. It had good reviews and I saw pics of soup dumplings so I had to come. I'm always in search of dim sum because Austin doesn't have good places. My coworker and I ordered the bbq pork buns, dry fried wings, string beans, soup dumplings x2, pork bao, sui mai x2. I really liked the soup dumplings and string beans. I was pleasantly surprised by the soup dumplings. My go to place in the USA is new York's Joe Shanghai. This place was good enough that it hit the spot. Usually it's too sweet, no soup, or no flavor. This one was just right. I would say it's tied or second to Joe's Shanghai which says a lot. The dry fried wings were too sweet and I didn't like the sauce on it. I rather it be dry with sauce on the side. The sui mai was okay. My coworker liked it enough to get a second order. I preferred the soup dumplings. I would come back to get 2x soup dumpling and 2x beans lol.
Really good dim sum in the Fidi. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other dim sum restaurants in the city. Ordered the Dan Dan noodle, pork sheng jian bao, and pork xlb, which were all delicious. I was so eager to eat I forgot to take pics of my food, but did capture the restaurant, which is a beautiful space (I got there right at opening and it filled up quickly after taking these pictures). Service was fast and friendly. Would recommend to anyone looking for really good dim sum in the Fidi.
Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 TL;DR: Randomly came across this place with a few friends & decided to give it a shot, and we were pleasantry surprised. Everything we got was pretty good, the service was fast, and it's fairly reasonably priced (esp for SF). Would def come back here! Dan Dan Noodles: *5/5*: Really flavorful, you can already tell by looking at the color of the sauce/broth. Compared to traditional dan dan noodles, it is on the sweeter side but I really liked that. Would've preferred if there was veggies in this dish to cut the richness but still delicious. Also wish portion was a little bigger Xiao Long Bao: *4/5*: The filling is really good, soft, and savory. There's perfect amount, if not a lot, of soup inside the dumpling. The wrapping was delicious but a little too thick on the top. Overall, pretty decent. Shrimp Paste Doughnut: *5/5*: I always order this when I see it on the menu. The doughnut is nice and crispy and there was a hefty filling of shrimp paste on top. Could've used more sauce, as ours barely had any on it. But great dish to order as a shareable app -- won't be disappointed.
Contemporary decor of East meets West when dining. Pleasantly surprised that this place exists. It can be easily missed from walking by. I adore their Pork Sheng Ji Bao - it had the right amount of dough layer and soupiness. My favorite dumpling here. Their other steamed dumplings were of the norm. Dan Dan noodle sauce is something unique and makes one slurp for more to embrace that flavor. Beef noodle soup was solid and their beef was tender. Their green onion pancake was thinly crisp and tasty. Stuffed eggplant tofu and string beans were spot on. Sesame balls were freshly fried and were complimentary to us. Steamed egg custard buns, were soft and just the right amount of sweetness. Service was superbly attentive and nice! Yummy tapa bite sized dishes and great for casual gathering kind of dining.
I wasn't expecting too much when I came here for dinner. The first thing i noticed was how well decorated it was, i loved the interior design. We decided to order a variety of dishes to test out what was good. Hot and sour soup - one of the better ones i've had! It has more ingredients which is what i like Pork sheng jian bao - it is difficult finding a place that makes these correctly but this place does this so well! Beef brisket soup - not as good compared to the other foods Lazhi chicken - very good and will order again!
Pork & Cabbage Dumpling: The dish features purple-colored dumpling wrappers, which initially gave us pause. However, after trying one, we were pleasantly surprised. The dumpling wrapper has the perfect thickness, and the stuffing is flavorful, pairing well with the chili sauce. Dan Dan Noodle: Coming from a background of enjoying spicy Dan Dan noodles, I was quite surprised by the sweeter flavor profile at Village Tea House. It's a new and interesting taste that, despite the deviation from the norm, is quite enjoyable. Pork Sheng Jian Bao: This is the main attraction that brought us to Village Tea House, recommended by a friend. The Sheng Jian Bao did not disappoint. However, do note that it takes some time to prepare, so expect a 15-20 minute wait. The wrapper has a delightful soft texture with a golden, crispy base. The filling is flavorful and moist, but be cautious as the soup inside the bao is piping hot - make sure it cools down sufficiently before taking a bite.
